Using a Device With EU two Pin Plug and Need Advice on Adapter

by Tara100 » Sat Nov 21, 2015 12:17 am

Hello

Please bear with me as I'm not an electronically minded lady!

I've purchased a small appliance that is being shipped from overseas having an 12v / 1.66A power adapter with EU two pin plug (I'm waiting for it to arrive)

I feel silly asking, but would I need to buy a complete new UK adapter, or could I plug the adapter into a travel plug, as I have those here?

If I have to buy a UK adapter, can anyone recommend a decent brand too please?

I've added a photo showing what the adapter should state on its rear.

Many thanks in advance.

Anyone?

p.s
The muddled up word in the title should say 'advice' :-)

The UK rules actually do not permit any one to import items into the UK without a British plug, in the main what they do is have a load of adaptors so you can select the one for your country.

However 12 volt is common and you could buy a replacement power supply with UK plug on it.

It only requires two pin connection the double square shows it is double insulated and does not require and earth. The current is very low so a shaver adaptor would do the job but it may not hold it firm enough. There are other adaptors which have a socket shaped for the German plug which will hold the power supply firmer.
