Tiling damp bathroom wall Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

hello!

My friend has a flat that he lets out and he needs to retile an area of his bathroom wall, which i said id do for him.
The area that needs tiling has suffered from damp.

It doesnt have to be perfect as the flat is on the cheap side, so with that in mind is it possible to tile over a plaster wall that still bears the effects of damp?
If not how would i remedy the damp plaster?
Ive heard if you paint over the plaster with Zinzer Oil Primer you might be able to then tile over it.

The one thing we can be sure of is if the wall is damp, the tile adhesive will not dry so the tiles will fall off. Damp causes the plaster to fail, so may provide inadequate surface for tiles. I have never heard of the product you mention, but generally it is not acceptable practice to tile over paint as the adhesive properties of paint is poorer than that required to support the weight of tiles.

Consider removing the plaster or using decorative cladding instead of tiles.
