tiling on wood

I'm attempting to fix some ceramic tiles onto wood - not a good idea I know, but I have some pipework in the bathroom that has been 'hidden' by a wooden surround and I want to tile that surround to match the rest of the room.
I have primed the wood with PVA (1 part to 5 parts water), but the ceramic tile fix fails to hold - I am considering using 'No More Nails' or an equivalent, or is there anything else available.
