Floor tiling

I am about to floor tile a kitchen with 400mm x 300mm tiles in a brick pattern. One door out of it has a step down into a back entrance. I would prefer not to have an additional threshold where the tiles start and would prefer to tile to the edge of the step but am worried about the edge of the tile chipping. Any advice
