Fungus in shower area

Hi, can anyone help?
Hi have recently moved into a 70's bungalow which has an en-suite shower off one of the bedrooms. I have noticed fungi mushrooms coming out of the tiles which back on to a stud wall. The shower area is just a door and the tiled walls complete the cubicle. Short of stripping out the whole area and re tiling is there any sealant on the market where I can paint over the tiles instead? I've siliconed the tiles where they meet the shower tray but no good. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers

You have to paint that area.

Unfortunatly you need to strip back the entire area, its contaminated and needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the info, it seems the safest answer then is to strip out the shower area. Do you know what I should use to seal the plasterboard before re tiling?

Cheers

some people say to tile directly onto the plasterboard,I prefer to plaster it first.Or you can buy aquaboard ideally suited for wet areas, its up to you.
