Bathroom tiling: Can I tile directly onto exposed blockwork? Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

I'm retiling my bathroom. In taking of the existing tiles, almost all of the plaster and bonding coat is coming away too, exposing the concrete blockwork. Is it advisable to just use that flat and level blcokwork surface to tile directly (porcelain tiles) or should I fit plasterboard and tile to that?? Thanks!

If the surface of the block is stable (ie not dusty) you could tile direct but will probably use a lot more adhesive.
You could dry line with plasterboard but use tile-on board in areas that may get wet.
