Fixing curtain rails to old walls

by Carlos_dp » Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:09 am

Hello,

I've tried drilling and screwing rawplugs into a a plastered wall for a curtain rail.

The house and plaster is pretty old, I've just had the room skimmed and painted. When I drill into the plaster, I get past the skim to the base plaster that is merely dust (mostly) and won't hold a plug. The wall beyond is stone (at least it is on the outside) so drilling isn't much use.

How do I get the curtain rail up ? If I use a baton, should I try to nail it or use no-more-nails etc....will this simply pull all the plaster off ?

Any helpful suggestions ?

YOU NEED TO DRILL DEEPER HOLES INTO THE MASONARY AND USE LONGER SCREWS TO SECURE.
