Fixing kitchen wall cabinets with 15mm back

Hi,
I have some Wickes kitchen wall units which have solid 15mm-thick chipboard backs. Wickes didn't supply any hanging brackets to fix them to the walls so I'm assuming I can simply screw directly through the backs and into wall plugs in the brick wall behind, so long as I use enough screws and they are deep enough into the wall (e.g. 75mm screws).
Can anyone offer advice on this, i.e. am I correct in thinking that I can do this? I did consider putting a wooden baton or brackets underneath for support, but this wouldn't be entirely obscured by the pelmet which would be a pain.
Thanks for any advice.
Tim
