Hi,
I have an old cast iron fireplace mantel that I would like to fit to a fireplace but the screw lugs are missing.
Any suggestions appreciated on how to best attach the mantel to the wall.
Thanks

joelgro,
The mantel shelf will generallly rest and locate on the surround or am I not understanding your question?

Hi Stoneyboy,
The cast iron mantel is all one piece with an insert behind it if you Google "victorianfires.co.uk" and search for "fitting a fireplace" and then "cast iron insert with cast iron mantel"
I think the lugs are usually on the side of the legs of the mantel but the one I have is missing them.
Thanks

If youre worried that the surround wont hold it or seal it then drill some holes thru the mantel sides and plug/screw it.

joelgro,
If you particularly want lugs get hold of a couple of heavy duty mirror plates, fix these to the rear edge of the fire surroung sides by drilling, tapping and screwing in place.
STG's suggestion is easier.
