drilling into weak wall.

by markluck » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:17 am

Hi all,

I am new at home repair and I tried to attach a new flat screen to my wall.

The apartment is very old and where I went to drill was like drilling into sand. The final hole diameter was supposed to be 10 mm so I drilled first a 6mm pilot hole.....which ended up being 10mm!

Once I started to fasten, the wall just fell apart!

Was it me? Or is the mortar just to weak? The mortar was about 2 inches deep before I hit solid wall.

Any help would be appreciated!Thanks!

If you're fixing a flat screen tv to the wall you may have to just hack a square of plaster off and fix timber straight to the brick then fix you're tv bracket to the timber, sounds like the the plaster has perished, I had to do that with mine and it worked out ok:)

Or you could use huge screws and plugs!!!!
