Fixing an island extractor to a steel beam

I'm really hoping someone can help.

I need to fix an extractor on to my kitchen ceiling above the hob. Unfortunately it needs to be fixed on to a steel which I recently had put in having knocked though from the kitchen to the dining room.

Does anyone have any idea how I would fix the extractor on to the steel? It's been 2 years now Nd I can't come up with an idea!!

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,
Not sure if you have sorted this out yet, but i remember seeing a Grand Designs once where the couple in Scotland used a Nailer to drive fixings into I beams for brackets. I think they used a Powder Actuated Tool or a Cartridge Hammer.

Google "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder-actuated_tool"
and
"hss.com/g/52245/Cartridge-Hammer.html"

Hope this works.

drill the steel and bolt it on. or bolt something to the steel and fix the extractor to it.

if you need a better/ more powerfull drill, rent one
