Fixing a bathroom sink to a platerboard wall

I have a sink basin for a bathroom to fit.

The wall is plasterboard and the sink is fairly heavy, it also is the 'freestanding' type, ie the pedestal is not to the floor.

The problem is the wall is plasterboad and the fixings supplied are for a 'solid' wall. There are a number of option I can see available for plaster board fixation but none for the size of fitting required, which is 10mm.

Are there larger solutions / fixing devices to this problem or will the sink simply be too heavy for this appliaction and an alternative solution (such as replacing the plasterboad with MDF for a stronger fixing point) be required.

Regards

In this situation where the sink and splashback will hide an alterations we suggest you cut out the area of board which the sink will butt up to. Fix 4 x 2 inch timber noggins between the upright studs on a line where the basin fixings need to go and replace the plasterboard. There is not one single plasterboard fixing which will take the weight of a basin + someone leaning on in in an early morning despairing look in the mirror!
