Fitting shleves to lightweight breeze blocks

I need to fit some shelves in my garage but the walls are made of soft breeze blocks. I think they may be the airated type. When I drill into them, they are very soft and not like most other heavy duty breezeblocks or red bricks ( I do not need to use the hammer function on the drill or even masonry drill bits).
What is the best way of screwing shelvesto this type of brick. I don't want to use normal rawl plugs and screws incase the shelves fall down onto my car.

Does anybody know what the best type of fixings to use are?

Hi All

Just a bit of an update to this post - we have just produced a new project page on how to build a work bench using the Simpson Strong Tie work bench kit. Although this project page is geared towards a work bench, the work bench kit itself can be used to build a very sturdy shelving unit, ideal for this situation, check it out:
