Fixing a Heavy Coat Rack to a Tongue and Groove Wall

Hi,

Probably a stupid question but I am unsure whether it's possible/advisable to fix a relatively heavy (for its size) coat rack to an original tongue and groove panelled wall using No More Nails or a stronger equivalent? The coat rack is the type with a vertical panel and pegs to hang coats on, as well as a shelf above to place children's shoes or something similar - approx 70-80cm wide made of pinewood. The wooden tongue and groove wall is painted with emulsion and so quite thin (only a few mm) as there is no backing on the other side - only the neighbour's hallway!

Many thanks,

Charlie

Hi

How are the tongue and groove boards fixed in place? It sounds like they should be fixed to studs at some point to hold them up?

If so, then you should be able to either screw the coat rack to the stud work behind the tongue and groove or you could fix vertical timbers floor to ceiling, that are fixed at both floor and ceiling points to provide rigidity and screwed to tongue and groove boards and fix the coat rack across these?

Kind Regards
