Attach Curtain Bracket to Wooden Plinth - Questionable Size

Hi everyone,

Recently moved and looking to put up curtain poles but nearly every window has a wooden batten above the window.

This wouldn’t normally be an issue but where I’d like to attach the brackets would be very close to the top/bottom of the wooden plinth. Therefore imo not providing adequate fixation. See photo.

Don’t particularly want to remove the plinths as they are the same colour as the walls and I don’t have the paint to touch up.

The plinths are 45mm.

Thoughts on how to put the brackets up?

Hi alewater,
1. Cut the bottom keyhole off the bracket and use top hole only - you may find the batten is only stuck to the wall so you will have to screw into the wall below.
2. Buy a different bracket.
3. Remove the batten and buy some paint.

Thank you.

The plinth us screwed in multiple places to the wall.

The bottom of the plinth is 100mm up from the window so I going to put the brackets directly under the plinth using two brown wall plugs.

I drilled a pilot hole just below the plinth and 30mm in I hit metal. It also sounds hollow below the length of the plinth where it sounds "normal" above it.

Now I'm more confused.

Hi alewater,
Very likely that you have steel lintels above the window opening so you will have to screw into these. Once you have drilled a pilot hole in the steel any hardened steel wood screw should be ok.
