I've got to build a small (1m) stud wall perpendicular to the kitchen wall (and hence parallel and between the joists above). This will then form the side wall of a cupboard so will have shelves attached to it.
From what I can see there are no noggins between that I can fix to - there *may* be one at the midpoint but unsure. Can't lift the floor above (it's tiled) and really don't want to chop holes in my newly plastered ceiling to fit noggins from below.
I saw somewhere the idea of using a piece of ply; I'm thinking ~450x1000mm so it comes out the full length of the wall, and screwed securely into both joists, then the head plate of the stud wall screwed into that. To me it should be perfectly strong enough - any reason I shouldn't do this?
(note there will be cupboard doors in front so it won't be visible from outside)
