Fixing a ballet barre to plasterboard

Any suggestions for fixing a ballet barre to a wall for my 10 year old to hold onto. It will need to bear some weight over the years as she gets heavier and stronger! Problem being that the wall is plasterboard and then compressed straw (1990s house!). Am thinking of screwing the barre onto a solid plank and then fixing the plank to the wall at several points. Plank will be 1200mm L, 35 D and 125 H. Have been advised self-drilling plasterboard fixings, however these are all advertised as light duty...

Hi William Molesworth,
Self drill anchors are fine where there is only a vertical force on them, where they are subjected to a force pulling them out from the wall they are pretty useless_
Use hollow wall anchors where the flutes fold and splay to give a secure fixing. If you can find studwork supporting the compressed straw panels you could screw direct into these.
