by Scoie » Sun Apr 15, 2007 6:13 pm

Hi, im looking at replacing a couple of rotten door frame uprights on an external porch door and was wondering what size screws and associated plugs i need that will take the weight of the door.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Most frame fixing are 4 inch number 10 or 12 screws which take brown wall plugs in a 7mm hole

Your better off takeing the whole frame out as opposed to just replacing the legs. Cut through the jambs(legs) and crow bar the frame from the wall. Fit the new assembled frame into place leveling the head first then plumbing the jambs secondly. Pre drill the frame locateing the bricks not the mortar. As the doc said use 4 inch no.10 screws. Hope this helps. Leo
