Hi,

We're renovating a Victorian house, and are looking to install a boiler and thermal store in a 0.99mx2.46m room.
The total weight of the boiler and thermal store will be approx. 500kg (the thermal store itself weighs 450kg full and will take up 1m2 floor area), and we need to know whether the existing floor joists are sufficient to support this weight.

The Building Regs tables assume a max imposed load of 1.5kN/m2, and we're clearly exceeding this. Any suggestions on whether we need to strengthen the floor joists, and if so, by how much?

The existing joists are 100mmx75mm (4"x3"), 0.99m span and approx. 400mm apart.

Any advice greatly appreciated! Jay
