Hi,
I'd, like to warn people who are thinking about having a conservatory that they should check small print in contracts from conservatory companies. Our conservatory was nearly built when we had a visit from the local planning department,
saying we needed Planning Permission!!
The dimensions were 4m x 4m and although the planning laws have recently been relaxed, we're in a semi so we were only permitted to go out by 3m, which was no good to us by the time you've fitted your double doors in etc.
We then rang the manager of the Con company (nice description) and he told us it was up to us to apply for planning and to check our contract out.
We quickly rang around for Architects, and 2 came out to quote us, one quote £650 the other £450, which is a bit of a slap in the face when you put the £150 planning fee on top!
We had to apply for planning A.S.A.P and we had 8 weeks of worry until we received permission and thought we might have to pull it down!!
The company we (finally) used to do our drawings were very helpful and only charged us £250 to produce the plans:
Google "conservatoryplansonline.com"
So please check your small print and check if you need Planning Permission.
Thanks
Clair Taylor
