 Help needed, I have recently inherited my late mothers house and have found a buyer, she didn’t have any building regulations for a garage conversion - to a kitchen. We have had the council round who have made an inspection, and will come back to us with amendments, I have a feeling we will need the following:

Walls insulated and damp proofed,
ceiling insulated
Floor insulated and damped proofed
Double glassing for windows

With the walls will we only need to insulate the wall that are on the out side of the building or will it be all four, and how long to the council take to come back with the amendments required.

How long ago was the conversion done???

You would only need to insulate the external walls not those between the new room and the existing dwelling.

You can sometimes get away without insulatind the floor on a garage conversion - it is not considered reasonable to rip up a sound floor just to add insulation so as much (or as little) insulation should be added as is reasonably possible.

Is the ceiling actually the roof to external or is there a room above???

How long will it take building control to get back to you??? how long is a piece of string???? I'd have expected a reply within a week after thier inspection
