Electrical Regs. Fused spur for fixed appliances?

Am I right in thinking that for a new installation appliances such as built-in fridges & freezers and large items such as fridge freezers now have to have a switched, fused spur that is within reach, rather than be connected to a socket out of sight behind them? Thanks for any replies..

This has always been the case. All appliances that are connected to a non accessible outlet should have provision to be able to switch off via a wall switch or fused spur.
Always better to be safe & be able to switch off something as quick as possible. A visitor or others wont know wear its plugged in so it can be switched off quickly in case of an emergency.
