We are hoping to buy a house which is at the end of a private drive. The drive is quite large and we would like to put either a metal or concrete garage on it. Would we need planning permission given that it is not on a highway but accessed via a private road which is maintained by the residents.

I would check with planning first, best to be safe than sorry.
