New build garage thats connected to neighbours garage question

Hi All,

I'm in a new build semi that has a detached garage which is joined to the neighbours garage, both of which are then connected to the neighbours house.

My garage just has a plasterboard ceiling so I went to remove one of these panels to look at creating some more storage space in my garage roof area.

I discovered that the separating wall between mine and the the neighbours garage stops at ceiling level and in effect there is nothing separating our two garages above the ceiling level.

Question is, is this right from a building reg view as anything in my garage would be prone to fire/theft if I was unlucky?

Any advice appreciated

Hi, there wasn't a problem until you took down the sheet of plasterboard & broke the fire break to the loft space. If you wanted to gain this space you would have to brick up the loft space between yourselves.
