Putting an internal door between the kitchen and garage

We wish to put a door from our kitchen into the garage to make a utility room in the rear of the garage. We plan on blocking the garage off 1/4 of the way down and building a wall across.
Do you have to have building regs to put this door in ?
Are we right in thinking that this door has to be a fire door?

Hi Duckie,
You may have to apply to the council for a change of use as it will no longer be a part of the garage. You may also need to put a fire door (FD30) that complys to BS 467-22:1987. Ask your Local Building Controls Officer the will be only to glad to advise you.

kbrownie is right that this will be a change of use under the b regs which will require an application to the LA as well as a material alteration i.e. new structural opening. The door should be a fire door with a 100mm step presuming that the garage floor is not laid to a fall away from the door.
