Stair and hallway regulations

by kezzab » Fri Jan 11, 2008 2:56 pm

Does anyone know what the regulations are for siting a stairway. I've been told that there is a restriction on the distance between a front door and the stair well. Makes sense but I can't find out what the distances need to be. Any help or advice would be really appreciated as I can't get through to the building control people for love nor money!.

Thanks

K

The guidance within Approved Doc K suggests that the bottom of the stair should be sited 400mm clear of the door swing. This only applies to the bottom of the stair. For further info look at the diagram in Doc K on the planning portal.

Thank you for your reply. I'm looking for the details for the top of the stairs but can't find that in the doc but thank you for the info you gave.
