Microsoft word viewer only allows you to view Word.doc files without having Microsoft Office (whatever version) installed on your PC.
It also supports the below file extentions
•Word Document (.docx)
•Word Macro-Enabled Document (.docm)
•Rich Text Format (.rtf)
•Text (.txt)
•Web Page formats (.htm, .html, .mht, .mhtml)
•WordPerfect 5.x (.wpd)
•WordPerfect 6.x (.doc, .wpd)
•Works 6.0 (.wps)
•Works 7.0 (.wps)
The question is what file extention does your CV have? (.doc, docx,?????)
If it is a microsoft word extention, then it is more than likely that the company you are submitting your cv to will be able to read it.
hope this helps.. :)

You might try installing Open Office.
It is a free and will allow you to read edit and save most Microsoft Office documents as well as pdf's.
Google "openoffice.org/"
