disc defragmenting

hi, just tried to start the disc defragment on my p.c, as i do about three times a year, and a box appears saying disc defragmenting won,t start. any one got any ideas????

davechidlow,
You'll need to boot into safe mode (push F8 when booting for Windows) then try defrag.

Do you have enough free space on the drive?
Defragging requires a certain amount of space before it can run

Try to boot your computer in safe mode. Then try to defragment again. Hope it helps.

In 2011 I think defrag was still required, but few PC's in 2017 need defrag, things have moved on.

If your disk is modern SSD type, so then I don't advise to perform a defragmentation, it reduces their life drastically!

I have stopped disc fragmentation for at least two years.
