My laptop turned itself off while I was using it, now whenever I switch it on it begins to boot up but then turns off after only a few seconds, any ideas on what could be the problem?

My guess is flat battery and a US power supply. My Laptop the battery went years ago in real terms it lasts just a few seconds before it dies. Now on forth power supply brick. When the power supplies go they tend to blow the fuse in the plug, pointless renewing it just blows the replacement. However you can test the fuse by using lead for something else, if it does not work then likely power supply brick has failed.

Bios problem == Disconnect the power supply for 10secs, re- connect, press F10 on your key board to get in to the bios setting and select the boot sequence, disable SATA
(use F5 or F6 or page up page down to change values) F10 save and exit.
Check your laptop time and date are correct, you probably will need to reset your clock and date.
