Removing gafa tape adhesive from painted wooden frame &

by Steve K » Mon Aug 02, 2010 3:17 pm

Hello

After removing gafa (gaffa? gaffer?) tape from the painted wooden frame around the hatch from my kitchen to sitting room (serving hatch - I sealed it up for soundproofing purposes) a large amount of the adhesive from the tape has stayed stuck on to the paintwork. It is also on some of the tiles wall around the hatch.

I need to remove this adhesive without damaging the paint or anything else.

Can anyone tell me what I should use to remove it please? I've tried scraping it off but it doesn't remove it and could damage the paint. I would guess some kind of solvent will do it but don't know what - white spirit perhaps?

Thanks.

Steve K
"white spirit perhaps" YES but it may need soaking for some while.

White spirit gently rubbed in with a pan scourer did the job surprisingly easy.

Thanks for the advice.

Good to know! I was going to say nail polish remover (not mine I hasten to add!) acetate seems to get most stuff off!

Thanks anyway Paul. A useful suggestion for the future - white spirit is a bit messy (oily) and stinks! :)

Steve K,
Don't use nail polish remover - it will strip the paint!
