Removal of stud wall

Hi
I am about to remove a 'stud' wall which divides the 3/4 bedrooms on the 1st floor of a victorian house. A number of builders have confirmed it is not loadbearing but one suggested it might be worth adding some additional support to ensure there is no chance of any roof sag. I would be grateful for some advice on the best way to do this, eg. should I put in any exrta joists?
Many thanks - Steve
