Why do we Need a Breathable Floor if we Have Airbricks?

Hi Folks,

Firstly thanks for taking the time to give this some thought.
We're just in the process of renovating our Victorian terraced house and are thinking about whether to use underfloor heating or rads on the ground floor. I want to know why we might need a breathable floor if we use ufh, if we have air bricks providing ventilation in the subfloor. I've read a lot about these houses, including the floor, having to be breathable to prevent problems with damp, but we'd have breathable paint and window vents to allow the house to breathe, so why can't the floor itself be impermeable - we're thinking about using engineered wood floorboards? Thanks again.
