Where to find replacement high period skirting boards

We have recently replaced a fire and surround in a period property and there is now a gap at each side of the skirting board of about 4 inches. Does anyone know where we could find some high period skirting board to replace or patch at each side of the fire?
I live in the Teesside area but could travel.
Thanks
Chris

Try any local timer merchants. Theres an excellent one I know of in newcastle, near the arena called tyneside timber. You could smiply fill a shorter piece of skirting from the bottom with a plain piece of wood to make up the height.

Use either a plank of wood or a stripe of mdf to create the flat face of the skirting, then fix a matching profile timber like ogee etc to the top. These profile timbers are normally fixed around door frames and are called mouldings. This is a cheap way of making old style skirting. :D
