Blackberry bush not fruiting

Hi,
This is my first year of growing my own fruit and veg so apologies if the question seems very simple. I have had a mixed bag of results so far and so have a few questions but will keep this question to the topic mentioned. I planted a new 'Black Bute' bush back in early spring. Initially in July/August the bush started to grow a couple of lovely 2 inch fruits and that is all. One stem has really taken off and I have trained it about four foot along the fence already, the rest of the stems haven't grown long enough to train them onto the higher wires. Is this normal for a young plant? A few of the leaves at one stage seemed to be drying out although it has been watered regularly throughout the summer. Any suggestions what I may or may not be doing wrong? Many Thanks in advanced.

nytram,
It's been a very difficult year for new planting so you may not have done anything wrong. Allow the bush to establish itself and see what happens next year - don't forget to cut back any old growth.
