RSJ - Load Bearings

by Marcher » Mon Apr 18, 2011 1:08 pm

Could someone help me out.

We are removing the bottom half of a load bearing wall at the back of our house and need to insert 2 RSJ's. I have been ringing up for prices today, but they are asking me about the weight

The RSJ's I want to buy are 6"x6" at a length of 3.3m. They have offered me 23kgs / 30kgs / 37kgs per meter.

Does anyone have any idea which one I should be using???

Thanks

Marcher

Marcher,
You should have building regulations approval for this type of work and they will expect load calculations. Find a structural surveyor to do the calculations and expect to pay about £150 plus BR fees.
