Hi,

I have purchased a marble/wood fireplace off the internet and want to fit it myself. I have removed my (very) old constructional tiled fireplace and the wall is now plasterboarded. The floor is laminate so this can be taken up easily.

My question is how do you fix the marble hearth to the floor?

Of the 2 that I have seen in this style the hearth is not physically attached to the floor, it's simply its weight that holds it down.

Oh right, I would have thought it doesn't weigh enough to be fixed by its own weight. The total weight of the package is 76Kg. Someone told me the hearth had to be cemented (or otherwise) to the floor then the back part is held in place by the wooden surround.

You certainly could cement it down but if you ever wanted to remove it again it would be a bit of a mare.

The hearth is a good 30kg's and once its down it would have the back panel and surround also on top of it holding it down.

Unless you have a sloping floor you shouldn't have a problem.

I haven't fitted one, but the guys who fitted my fireplace did the surround and hearth for me, I have a slate hearth which they bedded on a cement/mortar. Its nice and solid, means no worry about it moving.

I'd suggest mortaring it to the floor?!
