hi,

Just moved into a 1970's bungalow. Had a leek in the toilet and had to lift the flooring chipboard to get into the subfloor to mend the leek. I noticed that the floor joist sizes were only 4" x 2" (100mm X 50mm apprx) the joist centres were 15" (375mm apprx). Is this normal or should I be worried? I was expecting to see at least 6" (150mm) joists

Cheers

"Is this normal"

Yes if the span is around 2m.

"...or should I be worried?"

No if the span is around 2m.

"I was expecting to see at least 6" (150mm) joists"

Why?

Cheers

Thanks Roseberry, I have checked the span and its not longer than 2 metres. Sorry if I seemed thick but I've only ever had solid floors before.
Thanks for putting my mind at rest
