Recently bought a very old Grade listed house. The living room has an inglenook fireplace made stone. Looks like sandstone. The vendors inform me that it sheds dust which "eats" the carpet. Is there any reason why I cannot seal this stone with something simple such as matt varnish? I have sealed a stone (new) fireplace in the past without any problems. Tks
