Hi,
I am planning to build a workshop. The dimensions are 10x5x2meters. It will constructed in block with a rendered finiish and a tiled roof. What I need to know is how deep the foundations should be and is their a formular to work the depth and thickness out. Also it will be single skin, so how do I damp course/proof it or does the render waterproof it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks Lee. :?:

lee2472,
You must fit a horizontal dpc to stop rising damp, the render should stop water penetration especially if painted with maso paint. The depth and size of the foundations will depend on the subsoil conditions, you need to dig a hole and see what you find.

I am planning to build a workshop / shed 5.75m x 5.75m at the bottom of the garden too in a single skin. What type of blocks did you use? Aerated thermalites or Dense concrete?

My foundations are around 50cm deep and 30 cm wide with metal reinforement and A142 in the slab.
