Hi,
This is a basic question, just been trying to drill walls to put in fixings for curtain rails, my drill would not penetrate far enough, will an SDS drill do the job?? I know there is not a steel lintil in the way, but maybe a concrete one.

Thanks in advance.... :)

Why not knock some of the plaster off and find out?

Could it be concrete with re-bar running through it. That way it would look like concrete but not drill like it.

feeding a small magnet into the hole such as a magnetised screwdriver tip should allow the substance blocking the drill to be tested.

Otherwise assuming that the drill is on hammer setting and a masonary bit being used it may be a blunt or low quality drill bit both of which could struggle with a dense concrete lintel.
