garden wall renovation

I have a five foot high garden wall retaining a soil bank with slabbed patio on top of bank. The wall was constructed from brick and cement rendered in the 1970s before I moved in. The cement render has been crumbling away in recent years I think because DPM between bank and wall has failed in places. I removed all the render this weekend to reveal the brickwork. I now want to renovate the wall without total rebuild. Never tackled anything like this. Plan is to seal the existing brickwall (with what?) and then apply facing bricks using (?waterproof) mortar to give appearance of new wall. Will this work and give a reasonable life (10-20 years)? Any help appreciated.

peterw,
With the age of the wall I doubt you have a dpm installed - unless of course you have found one.
Whatever you stick on the wall it will blow off or spall, how quickly will depend on weather conditions.
