I have an old property and have opened up the fireplace to create an ingle nook. This has revealed original stone cheeks and lintle.
These have cleaned up very well with a nail gun. They appear to be a form of sandstone. Can anyone recommend a surface stabiler which will help to keep the surface clean and dust free without altering the appearance. A stove is to be fitted to the opening and hence any stabiliser should not discolour due to radiated warmth.
Any advice would be most welcome.[/u]

you can use a pva solution on it, it dries clear and will leave a film so dust will not settle as much on it
