Painting Garden Wall Straight Away or Pointing it First

Hi
The brick wall in my rear garden is in poor condition and would definitely benefit from some pointing. I'm planning on painting it with sandex Masonry paint and I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle of pointing it.
I'm bearing in mind that a) the walls not going to fall down any time soon, b) I'm ideally doing to sell it in the next few years and c) it's in the garden which has a fairly rustic feel anyway.
Basically if i can get away without pointing I will. Also, is it possible to point in the future after it's painted?
Thanks in advance.
