Vertical DPC and Wall Starter for Short Stretch of Garden Wall

Hi all,
I am building a short stretch of garden wall which is two bricks wide in an English bond pattern. I'd like to attack h it to the extension at one end with a wall starter to give more strength but also use a vertical dpc as the garden wall won't have a dpc (engineering bricks at the bottom then pee war commons).
Should I just place the vertical dpc behind the starter plate and leave a small gap and fill with movement joint filler?
Obviously the bolts for the starter plate will pierce the vdpc which is my concern.
Thanks
Rolf
