Wood Rot Soaked into Sandstone

I think I already know the what the answer to this but thought I would ask anyway.
I have a sandstone compressed plinth which holds a wooded post as in the photo.
I cleaned the plinth up and it came up like new when we first moved in so 21 years ago.
The bottom of the post was going soft so decided to use some wood rod hardener it.
I masked it off as best I could but of course the wood rot soaked into the plinth and under the masked off area.
So now my nice new plinth is recked.
Is there a way to brake down the solution otherwise it just means I am going to have to paint the plinth. (the wife aint to happy about that)
Thanks for any replies.
Because the photos are so big I have just included a link to them.

you could use a small quadrant bead around the base to hide it
