Hi spampanther,
It looks like the ground level is higher than the floor level. If this is the case (and your neighbour has soil piled against your side wall) you need to sort this as a first step.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I rather worried that would be the issue. The outside space is actually my garden and there isn't really a possibility of lowering the ground level without a huge excavation project. As this is an extension to the house do I just have to live with damp walls and never paint them?

Hi spampanther.
If the wall is one brick thick then yes. If it is two bricks thick then only repoint if you want to improve its appearance.
