Chasing cavity wall for pipes in bathroom

I am chasing our bathroom wall to run the water pipes up it (22mm). The wall looks to be a standard cavity wall made of 100mm deep blocks. I am finding it very difficult chasing this out. I am using an SDS drill and a specific chasing bit but I am finding the bricks are breaking a lot and it is not very neat. I am worried that I am digging out too deep. Is there any way I can reinforce this afterwards. I understand it should be about 30mm deep which is what I am trying to do but the bricks seem to crumble everywhere. Is there a better tool to use for this and can I reinforce it afterwards?
Thanks for your help.
