Removing brickwork to recess soilpipe

by Andrewbno1 » Tue May 04, 2021 9:39 pm

I have a soilpipe 90° elbow visible in our bedroom just at skirtingboard level. The house has been extended and the pipe has been run under the bedroom flooring. I have taken up a floorboard and want to remove some of the brickwork so I can recess the soilpipe. The brickwork is the original outside wall and I'd need to take out about 150mm wide by 5 courses, so a thin vertical strip. There are joists for the extension floor to either side of the bricks I would be removing so I know I would need to brace the joists. My wife is worried I'll bring the whole house down! Thanks in advance.

Hi andrewbno1
Since the bricks you want to remove are in an original outside wall there should not be any issues - there will still be the outer thickness of bricks to stabilise the recess.
