Air Brick Query in Bungalow Small Side Extension

Hi guys,
I hope someone can help.
Just about to move into a 1960´s bungalow with a 1980's small side extension for an en-suite which replaced the original path between house and garage. The extension/garage roof is flat felt.
As you can see from the photo, on the rear return wall is a square ventilation brick. Not sure why it is this size rather than the usual brick sized ones, nor why it is so high.
I want to install a bathroom ventilator fan and the best place would be just where this air brick is !
Can anyone tell me if this can be replaced with a smaller one lower down and perhaps why it was put in this position in the first place.
Thanks in advance for your opinions.
Chris
