Repointing Bradstone blocks

I have repointed parts of my garage that's built with Bradstone blocks but the pointing only seems to stay for a year or so before it 'falls out'. It doesn't crumble just comes out in brick-length pieces.
Is there any bonding agent that I could use to keep the poinig 'stuck'? Or is it my poor workmanship?!!

Hi frejaviole,
Most likely issue is that the joins were dry when you repointed, the water in your mortar mix will have been sucked out so does not adhere or set at the edges. If this is the case thoroughly wet the joins before you start.

Many thanks - I'll try that but is there any point in adding a bonding agent as well?

Hi frejaviole,
Assuming the mortar joints have been raked out to a depth of about 25mm there should be no need for a bonding agent. You could add one to your mortar mix and with the bradstone blocks you will end up with an impervious wall. Whether this will be a good thing will depend on the area of the parts that are treated.
